Benchmark

San Francisco · Series A

Maintains a deliberately minimal public presence, with no published thesis, roadmap, criteria page or application route. This entry exists because knowing that is worth as much as any criteria list.

Criteria: None published. Consistently reported, though not stated by the firm: an equal partnership of a handful of general partners sharing fees and carry equally regardless of tenure or who sourced the deal, deliberately capped fund sizes historically around $425 million, no junior investment staff and no platform team, a board seat on investments, and very few new investments per partner each year.

What this means for your pitchYou cannot research your way in. Access is referral driven and the partnership is tiny, so the realistic path is an introduction from a founder they have backed. Because they take a board seat and concentrate heavily, you should want a hands-on partner; if you want a passive check, this is the wrong firm.

A June 2026 report of roughly $2 billion raised across two funds, including a first growth vehicle, is unverified.

Secondary reporting only; the firm publishes no criteria. Checked 16 August 2026

What they are funding lately

Benchmark's site is a single page listing its San Francisco and Woodside office addresses and a Twitter link, with no news, blog, portfolio, or announcement content. The Institute reads that silence as information rather than papering over it: approach on the strength of the criteria above, and expect the firm to speak through its work rather than its website.

Is this firm right for your company? That is a question about your company as much as about the firm. Shawna, the Institute's concierge, interviews founders the way a partner would and renders a candid fundability finding, free and complete. Begin the interview.
